Description
Buddy Rich's Slingerland Drum Set.Feast your eyes on this Slingerland drum kit (with cases) gifted to Buddy Rich's protégé, Eddie "Shorr" Slivka. Slivka worked with Buddy between 1981 and 1983, and they were friends. Slivka would go onto perform with his own band, A Different Drummer.
The majority of the drums come in Buddy Rich Orchestra cases from a world tour in the 1970s (complete with stickers from various places).
This drum set is identical to the one that is pictured on the album Very Live at Buddy's Place. There is a double set of spurs and the double wing nuts on the cymbal mount. The interior of the shells are all double lacquered.
Recreating a typical kit Buddy used, this includes a 14" x 24" bass drum, a 9" x13" tom mounted on a Set-O-Matic holder, two 16" x 16" floor toms, a 4" x14" snare, a Rogers Swiv-O-Matic bass drum pedal with wooden beater, all the cymbal and high hat stands, cymbal mounts, and a 24" white marine pearl throne. Remo Diplomat heads are on all the drums.
Included with the drum set and cases are a crash ride cymbal, set of hi-hats, and one of the few Fibes snares used by Buddy. The 20" Zildjian crash cymbal was acquired in 1981. It is a thin ride, as Buddy wanted fast sounding cymbals. The 1960's Zildjian 13" hi-hat cymbals were acquired in 1976. Buddy used these with the Harry James Orchestra in the mid-60s.
This Buddy Rich Fibes snare was acquired from Buddy's trusted valet. Buddy gave away many drum sets, but he usually kept his snares. This is one of the early Fibes snares, which were drilled by hand. It has been polished and buffed to excellent condition and kept in a padded case.
There are extensive (and signed) COAs from Slivka, proving they were gifted to him from Buddy. Not only did he study with Buddy, Slivka also worked under "Tiger" Bill Meligari, Joe Morello, and Sonny Igoe. He also had a major impression on a classmate of his, a young Richard Reinhardt. Reinhardt is better known as Richie Ramone, who drummed for the legendary Ramones in the 1980s.
