Elvis Presley's Personal Piano, Used to Compose the Song "I Miss You". This beautiful upright piano was originally purchased in 1960 by Elvis' father Vernon, who intended it for the children of his second wife, Dee Stanley. A man who apparently knew how to shop for a piano, Vernon bought it from none other than Jackie Marshall, pianist for the legendary gospel group, the Blackwood Brothers. Manufactured by Shoninger, it was at the time considered the "Cadillac of Pianos".
At some point it eventually wound up at Graceland, where it was played by Elvis from time to time. The piano was moved around quite a bit by the family: Elvis not only kept it handy at Graceland, he also took it with him to his Walls Mississippi Ranch and Chino Canyon, California homes. It was at the latter location that Donnie Sumner used the piano to compose the song "I Miss You", which Elvis recorded in 1973 for the Sincerely, Elvis album. It returned to Graceland from Chino Canyon when that home was sold after Elvis' death. It remained at Graceland until Vernon decided to sell his home and much of its contents before relocating to Graceland; at that point it was acquired by Elvis' second cousin, Jerry Presley.
The piano is in Very Fine to Excellent condition with some areas of mild wear from use and age. It is accompanied by COAs from Jerry Presley, Donnie Sumner, Jack Marshall, and Bonnie Burnette.
