Gary Morton's Trumpet in Case with Sheet Music. Before his marriage to Lucille Ball in 1961, Gary Morton was an entertainer, primarily performing stand-up comedy on the New York "Borscht Belt." He was also a trumpet player and this lot offers his trumpet -- a Besson London prototype, serial number 128347 (this information engraved on the instrument), dating to the 1930s. The trumpet comes with its 13" x 22" brown leather hard shell case and 21 sheets of Morton's music. Also included is a telegram sent by Morton's friends when he was appearing at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre in 1958, with the message "We were just saying how wonderful that Morty Goldapper really is" (Morton's real name was Morton Goldapper). The trumpet has some tarnish, and the case shows some nicks ; otherwise, they are in Fine condition. This lot will be accompanied by a letter of provenance from Susie Morton as the widow of Gary Morton, Ms. Ball's second husband. The lot is not offered by the estate of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
