Description

The Kinks-Dave Davies 1958 Gibson Flying V Korina Solid Body Electric Guitar, Serial # 8-4643.

The Kinks are arguably one of the most influential British rock bands that helped launch the British Invasion. However, it was not until their third single, You Really Got Me that the band really started to make the scene. After the commercial success of You Really Got Me, the band went on its first American tour in June 1965, where Dave purchased this guitar. This guitar can be seen being played by Davies on the television show 'Shindig'-recorded in June 1965. The first recording that this guitar was used on was Till the End of the Day-recorded in November 1965. You can also see this guitar being played by Dave in the music video for the song Sunny Afternoon and many other live performances. As one of the first well-known guitarist to play a Flying V, some consider Davies responsible for the models resurgence and popularity. Dave Davies owned this guitar from 1965 to 1992.

The Famous Dave Davies-Kinks Flying V. The V heard around the world! Refinished and with a repaired heel crack, this Kinks V is well documented. The components are correct. The PAF pickups are undisturbed. The ABR-1 Bridge is correct and original to this instrument. Bridge has been moved at some point leaving additional holes. The pickguard was not removed but the electronic components appear to be original, though surely they were removed for the finish restoration. The Gibson logo is broken as seen in the photos. The original frets show moderate to average playwear. The treble side of the original ABR-1 is slightly filed down on the bottom as frequently seen in 1958. There is a hairline crack on the pickguard between the toggle switch and the volume knob. This is a very cool and musically historic instrument with extensive provenance, including a letter from Dave Davies himself. Two albums featuring Dave Davies playing the guitar on the covers (Spotlight on The Kinks and The Kinks Greatest Hits!) will accompany this guitar. Also, a black and white glossy photo of Davies playing the guitar - signed in silver ink (COA from PSA/DNA). This exact guitar is featured in Tony Bacon's book Flying V Explorer Firebird-An Odd-Shaped History of Gibson's Weird Electric Guitars,P. 50-51 and the Number 2, Summer 1994 issue of Vintage Guitar Classics, P. 59. Copies of both are included along with the original Guernsey's auction catalog from Jan. 1995. Three original tuners, a VHS tape of Shindig! Presents The Kinks and the CD Something else by the Kinks are also all included. 7.6 lbs. Non-Original Hard case included. Condition: Fair.
