DescriptionStephen Stills 1964 Gibson Firebird Sunburst Solid Body Electric Guitar, Serial #191976.
Gifted from Stephen Stills to Graham Nash and now available to you! This 1964 Gibson Firebird I will be the center-piece of any collection. This guitar is original and unbroken. The tuners are changed and one strap button is missing. One anomaly; there is no silver shield paint in the control cavity but the cover is painted silver on the underside. The pickup cover is chrome but the solder appears undisturbed, so possibly an original pickup. There was a period of transition from nickel to chrome. The pot date code is partially visible with the 1963 year code, the week is obscured. The bridge/tailpiece has been replaced and the knobs are non-original. The nut is replaced and the frets show moderate wear and may have been dressed. Comes with its original hardshell case. Gibson came to Heritage Auctions and took the specs from this guitar for a possible Signature Series guitar.
Received by Graham through a trade with Stephen Stills. Stills wanted some early Stratocasters that Graham owned and one of the guitars he traded was this Firebird. It was purchased by Stills in St. Louis in 1973. This is the guitar Stills played on what was later released as the CSNY 1974 box set.
"Stephen has a lot of guitars. As I do, as David does, as Neil does."
"Wow. It still sounds great."
