    Description

Roy Buchanan's 1952/1967 Fender Telecaster Blonde Solid Body Electric Guitar, Serial # 0686/93089. Heralded as one of the most influential guitar players of all-time, Roy Buchanan was a master of the Telecaster tone. Born the son of an Arkansas sharecropper, he was exposed to gospel music as a child and carried that influence throughout his illustrious career. Over the years, he would record with the likes of Dale Hawkins, Ronnie Hawkins and Delbert McClinton while becoming a favorite of John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and Merle Haggard just to name a few. Legend has it that Buchanan's prowess as a player was such that he was invited to join The Rolling Stones, an offer which he declined. Already famous within the music community, he gained national exposure as the subject of the 1971 PBS television documentary Introducing Roy Buchanan. This resulted in record deals with Polydor and Atlantic. Sadly, Roy Buchanan died far too soon leaving behind wonderful recordings by one of the finest Telecaster players ever. This Roy Buchanan owned and played Telecaster is comprised of an original 1952 body with a date of 3-7-52 and a maple neck that dates to 1967. The pickups appear to be original with newer wires. The pots and switch are newer replacements as are the tuners. The bridge, control plate and knobs appear to be original 1952 pieces. The face of the headstock looks to have been re-finished with a replacement decal installed. The pickguard has also been replaced. The letters "SA" have been carved into the body under the guard and Roy Buchanan's signature adorns the top. This guitar has most likely been re-fretted and there is considerable fret wear. A brass nut has been installed, a common modification in the late 1970's, and a 1952 era round string tree is on the headstock. One mounting screw is missing from the bridge. There is a considerable amount of provenance and documentation included in the 80's era tweed hard case. Condition: Fair. Price Guide Value N/A
