Johnny Meeks-Owned G&L Cavalier Electric Guitar (1983). From the time Johnny Meeks replaced Cliff Gallup as lead guitarist for Gene Vincent's Blue Caps band, he's been a Rockabilly star. Johnny joined the Blue Caps in 1957, and appeared with Vincent's records beginning with "I Got It", eventually writing the song "Say Mama" with Gene, appearing with the band on the Ed Sullivan Show and the movie, Hot Rod Gang. After the Blue Caps split in 1958, Meeks went on to work with the Champs ("Tequila"), Elvis Presley (he's seen playing guitar with Elvis in the film Roustabout), Michael Nesmith, Leroy Van Dyke, Lynn Anderson, and most notably, Merle Haggard. Here's a well-used, specially made G&L Cavalier Johnny used during his tenure with Haggard, and later tours with the revived Blue Caps. The G&L Cavalier is scarce on its own, with only about 1,400 ever produced. While the finish on this honey-blonde model shows extensive cracking, and the body and neck both display wear, there's still plenty of life left in this baby. Included are the original hardshell case, Johnny's strap, and several signed photos of Joe and Leo Fender. Own a piece of Rockabilly history, and go, cat, go! From the Johnny Meeks Collection.
