DescriptionGibson Country Gentleman Original Prototype Guitar, Owned and Played by Chet Atkins (1986) Condition: Very Good+.
This cherry finish charmer features a number of innovations that were not carried over to the regular edition Gibson Country Gentleman, including string locks above the nut and fine tuners on each string, between the bridge and Bigsby tailpiece. Chet left a few marks on the guitar, including a piece of black tape on the neck pickup, where his finger pick usually brushed the surface, and there is some minor loss of finish on the brass areas, including the vibrato arm and the pickup covers, but for a well-used instrument, it's surprisingly well-kept. This gorgeous instrument is prominently featured in Russ Cochran's book, Chet Atkins - Me and My Guitars, with a full page picture on page 149, and a photo of Chet onstage with the guitar. The serial number is #81006902, and the guitar comes with a hardshell case. From the Russ Cochran Guitar Archive.
