    Description

Duane Allman's Circa 1961/1962 Gibson SG, Cherry, Solid Body Electric Guitar, Serial #15263 Owned and Played by Graham Nash.
Not only has Graham Nash owned this, he has also played it. This guitar has no breaks or repaired cracks but has been refretted with similar style wire. The nut is an original nylon type and the tuners have been changed to Schaller's but appear to be the same as in some photos we have seen of Duane with this guitar. The neck pickup has a Patent sticker and the wire has been spliced. The bridge pickup has not been removed or inspected due to a screw that needs to be extracted. The pots are all made in Mexico Bourns replacements. The caps are all 500K and are more recent. The control cavity has silver shield paint, similar to Firebirds of the mid 60's. The control plate/cover has been covered with shield foil on the inside. One screw is missing from the control cover. The string buttons are era correct but one is a style usually seen on ES models of the late 50's/early 60's. The switch tip is a metal replacement. In good condition overall with some fading to the finish and minor dings and scratches throughout. There are four drill holes in the face from a former tailpiece. Non-original hard case included.

"I know it was his favorite guitar and he played hundreds of shows with the Allman Brothers with that guitar."

Provenance: This is best known as the guitar he played on the live recording of "Statesboro Blues," the opening track of At Fillmore East. After Duane's death in 1971, this was given to a student of his named Gerry Groom. Groom sold the guitar to a music store after he suffered a hand injury. Fred Walecki, who operated the store, called Graham about the guitar. This was the first guitar Graham purchased when he began his collection of other guitarists' guitars.

"This is the famous From One Brother to Another guitar, traded between Dickey Betts and Duane on all their live shows, [like at] the Beacon Theatre in New York. This is a very special guitar. Duane was obviously one of the great guitar players in the world. To be able hold his guitar and humbly play A minor, that's about the best I can do. I don't want to play slide. Who would want to do that? This a great guitar. Somebody is going to be able to hold this guitar and feel the same thing that I do. It's a passion for music, for the instruments that made that music."
