DescriptionD'Angelico Excel Guitar (1950) Condition: Very Good+.
This beautiful archtop guitar has the serial number #1838, which is one away from the Excel Chet Atkins used throughout 1950-54 when he played with the Carter Family, and on many early recordings. The D'Angelico is widely considered the "Stradivarius of the Guitar," beautifully hand-made by John D'Angelico. This guitar features a floating "Howard Roberts" pickup, and standard stairstep tailpiece. The instrument was refinished and rebound by master luthier John Montelone in the 1970s, and sports only faint wear along the top surface. A wonderful, full-toned instrument that can be played acoustically or amplified. Comes with a hardshell case. From the Russ Cochran Guitar Archive.
