Here's Johnny... On Buddy Rich's Drums!

Buddy Rich/Johnny Carson circa 1978/1979 Ludwig White Pearloid Drum Set.
Here is a special piece of TV history: a circa 1978/1979 Ludwig drum kit played by legendary drummer Buddy Rich on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and later owned by Carson and set up in his home. Rich was a frequent guest on the show and performed drum-offs with house band drummer Ed Shaughnessy. Carson was an accomplished drummer himself, but is best known for his skills as a comedian and host of the NBC late night staple.

The front bass drum head has the signature "BR" logo in the upper left portion. Comes with the following:
    -one 24" kick drum, serial # 1761534
    -one 14" snare drum, serial # 1761707
    -one 13" hi tom, serial # 1761535
    -two 16" floor toms. serial #'s 1761511 & 1761536
    -one pair of 14" hi-hats
    -two 18" crash cymbals
    -one 20" ride cymbal
    -one 10" splash cymbal.
Hardware includes a Universal Speed-Master kick pedal, hi-hat stand, snare stand, and cymbal stands. Cymbals are Zildjian.

Consigned to us by Don Sweeney, who worked for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson for 20 years. Starting as a production assistant, he eventually worked his way up to Assistant Musical Conductor and The Tonight Show band's librarian. When Carson left The Tonight Show and handed the hosting reins to Jay Leno, Sweeney stayed on until 1995. Sweeney wrote a book about his time on the show called Backstage at the Tonight Show in 2006.

Circa 1978/1979. Drum shells have a slight yellow fade to them. The Ludwig Weathermaster heads are still intact and have some bounce left in them when hit. There are cracks in the bell of the splash, while the rest of the cymbals are still in good shape (save for fading on the printed writing). The drum hoops and tension rods have significant rust in spots. The kick drum head has a lot of adhesive residue in spots, along with scratches on the hoops. Some loosening of the wrap. Cool looking kit with rare matching, though slightly different pattern, throne. Condition: Good.

Lot comes with throne, drum cases, hardware box, and cymbal bag. Please see the 6:50 minute mark on the video below to see these drums.
