Description

1965 Gibson Thunderbird Cherry Red Electric Bass Guitar, #553078. If you are old enough to have been around the Southern California music scene back in the mid to late 60s, you might have been lucky enough to catch The Traveling Band. The group comprised six brothers and sisters. One of the sisters played this Gibson Thunderbird while one of her brothers played a matching Firebird guitar (also in this auction). Consider winning both! The other two sisters played organ and drums while the other two brothers sang. Talk about keeping it in the family.

This Gibson bass rocks and has that "thunder down under!" Factory frets are original and are in very good condition. Complete with pickup cover and mute. Normal pickguard shrinkage cracks. Nitro finish is in good condition and exhibits normal checking. Some coiled cord and strap rash on back. Little bit of finish missing on bottom edge of neck between the 15th and 20th frets. Please expect average playing wear and scratches as this Firebird is about 45 years old and was played in a band. Overall, a very nice instrument. Original hardshell case in Very Good condition, missing handle.
