    Woody Guthrie Original Watercolor on Paper "Build a House" Initialed on Front and Signed on Verso. Just in time to wrap up the celebration of the 100th anniversary of his birth in 1912, we offer an unusually large and dynamic watercolor, 17" x 14" (sight). It pictures a large hand holding a hammer with houses at lower left along with two figures (children?). Disguised in the grass growing at lower center is his initials "W G". The tools indicate the sensibilities of the common working man, a standard theme of his work. Likely painted in the late 1940s, it appears that this art references one of Guthrie's children's songs titled "Bling-Blang" from his Songs to Grow on for Mother and Child collection. The lyrics start:
    "You get a hammer and I'll get a nail;
    You catch a bird and I'll catch a snail;
    You bring a board and I'll bring a saw,
    and we'll build a house for the ba-by-o"
    Across the verso, Guthrie has boldly printed "Build A House" and signed "Woody Guthrie". It is matted and framed to an overall 26" x 23". The back is also covered with glass and the above title and signature are viewable.
    According to our consignor, this watercolor was obtained from the son of a gentleman by the name of Heitner who was a printer at Folkways. Through a years-long association at the record label, they became close friends and this watercolor was gifted to Heitner after Woody's death by his second wife Marjorie. He reports that this was a particular favorite of Guthrie's and hung in his Coney Island home for years. An amazing opportunity to own a particularly important piece by the legendary troubadour and artist.

    The movie quite literally changed my life. I have included a pic of me in Sly's Rocky 3 Cashmere overcoat, would much appreciate if it is possible for you to forward this email to Sly to let him know the overcoat is in good hands, and will be well taken care of, (as will be the Rambo knife forging tools, the other lot I won!) Wish you very happy holidays and a great 2016!
