Beatles-Inspired "Pop Singer" Wooden Puppet, Pelham Puppets (UK) 1960s. Pelham Puppets of Marlborough was among the most famous marionette manufacturers, and seeing an opportunity with the Beatles popularity, Pelham sought to immortalize the group in wood and string. Licensing was apparently not secured, and so the company marketed a Beatles-like group of four puppets as the "Pop Singers". The puppets were clad in two types of suits - a brown solid fabric, or as seen here, the more Beatlesque striped and black trimmed jacket and matching trousers. Each also came with an instrument, which is missing here. Overall the puppet in Good condition, apparently fully intact except for the missing instrument and missing necktie, and measuring approximately 12" high. Comes with the original 13" x 4" x 3" box and printed two-sided instruction sheet. The box in Fair condition with the front two corners torn open, some soiling and staining, and stamped "No. 2 POP SINGER" on the side. A piece of the instruction sheet has been cleanly cut out, perhaps where a mail-in offer had been printed. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection.
