    Description

The Beatles Yesterday and Today Sealed Mono Second State Butcher Cover Capitol Records T 2553 (1966). Can you say rare? This wonderful example is seldom seen in this still sealed condition. The "Trunk Cover" of this copy hides the sinister "Butcher Cover" underneath. Look closely to the right of Ringo and you'll be able to make out another visage of the Beatles' drummer behind the white background.

When Capitol Records was hit with the huge backlash, Capitol higher-ups decided the cover was an ill-conceived idea. So, Capitol hurriedly selected an alternate cover (the "Trunk Cover"), and withdrew the "Butcher Cover." At that point Capitol supposedly had losses of $250,000 before the album was ever officially released to the public. To save money they used as many of the original jackets as they could by covering the butcher image with the new Trunk image. This example is the second state paste over mono version. Around 85 percent were mono and 15 percent were stereo.

The "Butcher Cover" in any state is rare and highly coveted by collectors worldwide. This copy is still sealed. Opening and peeling not advised! Also includes the price sticker for $2.88 in the top left corner. The back of the jacket lower right corner has the number 3 indicating it was from the Scranton Plant.

Condition: NM 9/GM-MT 10 (still sealed) with virtually no wear exhibited as a result of age, handling, and storage over the last 50 plus years, save for some light toning. Also has a few small breath holes in the shrink wrap. This will make a wonderful edition to the collection. COA from Hein's Rare Collectibles and COA from Heritage Auctions.
