The Beatles Philadelphia Convention Center Concert Poster (1964). After a brief blitzkrieg visit to the US in February 1964 for appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show and a couple of concerts in Washington, DC, and New York City, the Beatles returned the following summer for their first full-blown tour of America. Philadelphia was the tenth stop, but the first, and ultimately the only venue of the entire tour, to produce a poster for the event. This, then, is the first American concert poster promoting the most important rock and roll band of the 20th Century. Unlike most concert posters of the day which used garish "split-fountain" rainbow hues and dingy photos of each and every act, this stark, sharply designed black and white poster mentions only the main act (supporting acts included Jackie De Shannon and the Bill Black Combo, among others). The typeface for The Beatles closely resembles the band's distinctive logo, as seen on Ringo's bass drum, while the somewhat cartoonish line drawings of John, Paul, George, and Ringo, were taken from the artwork used on packages of Topps trading cards. This scarce poster, one of only four known to exist, measures approximately 14" x 22" on cardboard, which has had moderate professional restoration (corner holes filled in, discoloration lightened) to give it an excellent VF appearance. This incredible, eye-catching piece will make any Beatles collector proud.
