Sly & The Family Stone 1971 Madison Square Garden Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card for Sly and the Family Stone performing for three nights at MSG in New York City on September 8, 9 and 10, 1971.

This is one brightly and brilliantly designed concert poster; it's obvious that a ton of thought and work went into creating it. The most eye-catching colors, red and yellow, are everywhere, with images of the Family Stone's faces presented in unorthodox B&W fashion. The band's name in nice big letters and one of the world's most famous venues given prominent play at the bottom round out the picture.

This was certainly the San Francisco 'psychedelic soul' group's absolute commercial peak. Their last charting single had been "I Want to Take You Higher," and their very next single was "Family Affair," which reached #1 on both the pop and R&B charts. And this concert surely included their monsters from just the last 3-4 years... "Dance to the Music," "Everyday People," "Hot Fun in the Summertime" and "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)."

They had a pretty strong second-billed act, too. Detroit's Rare Earth had burned up the charts nicely in 1970-71 with "Get Ready," "(I Know) I'm Losing You" and "I Just Want to Celebrate." Opening act Ruth Copeland was a British-born singer, writer and producer who worked with George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic, but never gained traction as a solo artist.

Poster measures 14 x 22" and is graded in Near Mint Minus condition with bumped corners with creasing and toning, along with staple holes in the upper and bottom portions. COA from Heritage Auctions.
