    Description

Rolling Stones "Not Fade Away/ I Wanna Be Your Man" 45 and Rare Picture Sleeve (London 45-LON 9657, 1964). The Stones' first American single on the original purple and white London label, with the seldom-offered accompanying picture sleeve. This was a combination of the "A" sides of their second and third UK singles. "Not Fade Away" was, of course, a Buddy Holly composition recorded originally by the Crickets. "I Wanna Be Your Man" was a composition that John Lennon and Paul McCartney finished especially for the Stones' use as a single. Mick Jagger was later quoted: "We knew [the Beatles] by then and we were rehearsing and Andrew brought Paul and John down to the rehearsal. They said they had this tune, they were really hustlers then. I mean the way they used to hustle tunes was great: 'Hey Mick, we've got this great song.' So they played it and we thought it sounded pretty commercial, which is what we were looking for, so we did it like Elmore James or something." Record NM 8; sleeve EX 7.
