Robert Johnson "Me And The Devil Blues/ Little Queen Of Spades" 78 RPM (Vocalion 04108, 1938). Robert Johnson's "Me And The Devil" is one of the legendary titles that ignited the tale of how he traded his soul to the devil at the legendary crossroads of Highways 61 and 49 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, in exchange for his brilliant ability to play and sing the Blues. The song opens with Satan knocking at Robert's door, telling him it was time to go. "Me and the Devil walkin' side by side..." and closes with his "old evil spirit" catching a Greyhound bus to ride. The flip side, "Little Queen of Spades" is an early song about the spell of the mojo. Robert Johnson was murdered shortly after this 1938 session at the age of 27, but his recordings, reissued for the first time in the early 1960s, went on to influence a whole generation of Rock greats. His vocal and guitar styles could be vividly heard in the songs of Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Brian Jones. This copy of "Me and The Devil," backed with "Little Queen of Spades," is an original first pressing, Vocalion 04180, and one of the finest known. Condition of disc Gem-Mint 10, label Gem-Mint 10.
