    Description

Pixies Signed Minotaur Vinyl/CD/Blu-ray/DVD Box Set (Artists in Residence/4AD, 2009). A hefty box set devoted to the highly influential Boston act, a band called Pixies. Spread across 24k CDs, black vinyl LPs, a Blu-ray, and DVDs, this is an almost complete collection of everything Charles "Black Francis" Thompson, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering did in their original incarnation. (The omission is the wealth of b-sides, demos, and radio sessions that are found on other reissues.)

Housed in a clamshell, the EP Come On Pilgrim and LPs Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossanova, and Trompe le Monde are available on CD, vinyl, and Blu-ray. Also included is a DVD of the band performing at the Brixton Academy in 1991 and their music videos. The five CDs, two DVDs, and one Blu-ray are housed in a 27-page hardcover book. Inside the book is a loose, thin page signed by all four members with a black felt tip. The set also includes two folded posters, a Giclée print, a 46-page hardcover book with lyrics and artwork, and an oversized 95-page hardcover book (with photos and lyrics). Set is numbered 288 out of 3,000. (This does not come with the ultra-rare test pressings, found on the very limited edition version.)

At the time the band debuted in the mid-1980s, there were no clear reference points of where they came from. They had tinges of punk and post-punk, but also surf rock, indie, rockabilly, and folk. And they had a sense of humor in their music. Pixies were a huge band on the college rock scene in America and beloved in England. But their stature grew significantly after they broke up and were frequently name-checked as a major influence. Kurt Cobain famously noted Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" had a similar bass line and loud/quiet/loud vibe to the Doolittle's opening track, "Debaser."

Box set measures 3 ½" x 15 ½" x 22 ¾". Overall, box set is in Very Good Plus condition with wear on the box itself while the vinyl discs, DVDs, and CDs are in unplayed, Near Mint condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
