    Description

One of the Rarest Beatles Records - "My Bonnie"/ "The Saints" 45 Single (Decca 31382, 1962). Both Tony Sheridan and The Beatles were British acts imported to play long hours for the raucous crowds at the Kaiserkeller and The Star-Club in Hamburg's seedy late-night district. The Beatles at that time included Stu Sutcliffe on bass and Pete Best on drums. German bandleader Bert Kaempert saw Sheridan as a rising star and arranged a recording contract with the Beatles as his backup band. The nine songs that have surfaced from those sessions feature Sheridan singing lead on seven, Lennon on "Ain't She Sweet", and one instrumental, "Cry for a Shadow". The biggest hit from the session was "My Bonnie", which peaked at #5 in the UK, credited to Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers.

Tony never enjoyed the success in his home country that he had in Germany, and, in fact, resided in Germany for most of the time after "My Bonnie" until his death on February 16, 2013.

In 1962 the Beatles were already becoming stars in the UK, but this US release proved the US wasn't quite ready for the Beatlemania that would follow two years later. The record went nowhere commercially; in fact, promo copies actually outnumber the commercial copies because all but a few of the latter were just trashed! Now it's a highly sought-after rarity!

Noted Beatles expert and author Perry Cox opined in 2011 that this was the "finest example of this record I have seen." High praise indeed for one of the rarest and most valuable Beatles records of all! The best estimate is that only 20-25 copies may even exist, and in this condition only a handful. Cox has further offered that "of the two label styles that exist for this record, this version having the bolder print and the selection number '31382' in the colorbar area of the label is the scarcest style." Condition: NM 8. LOA from Perry Cox.
