Johnny Winter The Progressive Blues Experiment LP Advance Copy and Documents (Sonobeat R1002, 1968). Arguably the most important white Bluesman to emerge after the legendary Delta Bluesmen (Robert Johnson, B. B. King, Albert King, et al), Winter, too, hailed from Mississippi, but really got his professional start in Texas, based in the Houston area and recording his first album for Austin-based Sonobeat in 1968. The small label recognized Winter's potential nationwide appeal and contacted Liberty Records for a possible partnership. Included here from Liberty Record's files is an advance copy of the Sonobeat album, The Progressive Blues Experiment, and a copy of the accompanying letter from Sonobeat's Bill Josey to Bud Daine of Liberty Records dated December 22, 1968, suggesting a partnership. Also included: a copy of the resulting letter dated January 23, 1969 and agreement to Josey from Liberty's counsel setting forth the partnership. Subsequently Liberty re-released the album on its Imperial label, and Winter soon became a national star. There were relatively few copies of the album pressed on the original label, and only a handful of these advance copies. Condition: VG 5(plain white advance cover)/ VG-EX 6 (disc).
