    Description

Jimi Hendrix's Personal Copy Band of Gypsys LP Acetate (Sterling Sound, 1970). The legendary guitarist had formed the Band of Gypsys in 1969 with famed drummer Buddy Miles, his last musical project before his untimely demise in 1970. This acetate of the group's one album release was produced in early 1970, just seven months before Hendrix's passing. In September 1970, Hendrix was staying with his friend, British television documentary director Dick Fontaine in London. On September 17 Jimi was with his friend, Monika Dannemann, at her apartment at the Samarkand Hotel in Notting Hill, where he died shortly after midnight. This acetate was among other items Hendrix had left with Fontaine, who later gifted the disc to Robert Groden who had worked with Fontaine on a television documentary. Included with the acetate is an affidavit from Robert Groden, which includes additional information about the Band of Gypsys project and about Groden's association with Dick Fontaine. Not just an acetate - rare enough - but Jimi's personal copy! Condition: VG-EX 6
