    Description

Introducing . . . the Beatles Mono Album Second Version (Vee-Jay VJLP 1062, 1964). The Beatles' recording contract that began in 1962 was with Parlophone Records. This gave the parent corporation EMI the right to license with whomever they wanted all over the world. EMI's USA subsidiary Capitol Records initially turned down the release of their single "Please Please Me" so Transglobal, an EMI affiliate negotiated a deal with Vee-Jay Records out of Chicago Illinois.

Introducing . . . the Beatles was the Beatles first studio album release in the USA. Originally scheduled for a July 1963 release, the LP came out on January 10, 1964, on Vee-Jay Records.

On January 16th, 1964, Vee-Jay was served with a restraining order stopping further distribution. Beechwood Music, Inc., Capitol Records' publishing subsidiary, owned the American publishing rights for "Love Me Do" and "P.S I Love You." Also the two songs had not yet been officially released in the US, Beechwood refused to issue a license for Vee-Jay to release them. So approximately 80,000 copies of of Introducing . . . the Beatles "Version One" had been released with the two songs on them.

In the fall, word was spreading about this new group from Liverpool so Capitol finally agreed to release their next single "I Want To Hold Your Hand." As the record climbed the charts, Vee-Jay records decided to put out an album to get a jump on Capitol's promotion of "I Want To Hold Your Hand."

This is the release of the mono second version in America. The first version included "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You." Three weeks after release the album was pulled due to copyright problems with these two songs. Early in February 1964 the second version of the album was re-released and "Twist and Shout" and "Please, Please Me" replaced the two deleted tracks. This album is the second version. the Vee-Jay label has a colorband and "VJ" in brackets. The cover is in NM-8 condition. Vinyl is MT-9. This is one of the finest examples we have ever seen. It would be hard to upgrade from here. COA from Heritage Auctions.
