Elvis Presley "Blue Suede Shoes"/ "Pocketful of Rainbows" Acetate (Reference Recording, 1960). Two alternate versions of the songs used in Elvis' hugely successful movie G. I. Blues, the soundtrack of which was nominated for two Grammy Awards. The King originally recorded "Blue Suede Shoes" in 1956 for his first LP Elvis Presley, and re-recorded the classic Rockabilly tune for the movie, one of only three songs Elvis re-recorded during his career. It's the bonafide 'rocker' on the soundtrack. The acetate is an earlier take than the version ultimately used in the movie - more akin to the 1956 version. The version of "Pocketful of Rainbows" is more uptempo than the soundtrack version, featuring a pronounced calypso beat.

This is a particularly sought-after acetate, and not just because of the obvious desirability of "Blue Suede Shoes". Everyone in the recording studio thought that this take of "Pocketful of Rainbows" was perfect, but Elvis, ever the perfectionist, speaks/comments at the end, "Let's take one more kinda quick here and we got it."

An interesting note about the label for "Blue Suede Shoes": a typo had Elvis' name spelled "Elvus". It's been addressed with an overstriked "i" on the label.

    The 10" acetate plays at 33 1/3 rpm. Condition: VG-EX 6.
