Beatles (as Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers) "My Bonnie/ The Saints" Promo 45 (Decca 31382, 1962). One of the most important vinyl discs ever produced is this innocuous pink label promo recording on the familiar Decca label. It was all but ignored in the US where this was released, as were the Beatles in general in 1962. The Fabs were beginning to make a name for themselves in their Liverpool hometown and garnering a following in the unlikely locale of Hamburg, Germany, where they worked alongside fellow Brit, Tony Sheridan. When Polydor signed Sheridan, the label selected the Beatles to back him on a single, calling the group "The Beat Brothers" to avoid tricky translation problems. The two Tin Pan Alley standards that were recorded were released to some success -- but only in Germany. Decca, an American affiliate of Polydor, issued pink label promo copies and black label commercial copies in the States to absolutely no avail! America wasn't ready for the British Invasion in 1962! It would be two years later in 1964, after the launch of Beatlemania in the US, that MGM would reissue this single, and only then did the record, now credited solely to The Beatles, enjoy commercial success. The Decca version is the very first American release by the Beatles, whose name doesn't even appear on the label! Rare without question, and in this condition practically unique. Condition: MT 9.
