Beach Boys "Surfin'" Rare Pre-Capitol Recordings (X Records 301 and Candix 301, 1961 and 1962). The first single ever released by the Beach Boys was the immortal "Surfin'." It was originally released on the Candix label as Candix 331 in November 1961, followed by the two incarnations offered here: X Records 301 from December 1961, and again on Candix in January 1962 as Candix 301. "Surfin'" was recorded in October of that year, when the group was still known as the Pendletones. When Candix pressed the single, however, the label decided that a new group name would be helpful to cash in on the burgeoning surf music scene - and the Beach Boys were born!. The song was a big hit in southern California, where it went to #3 on the local charts, and eventually made it to #75 nationally. Condition: Candix EX 7.5; X Records NM 8.
