The Stooges (Iggy Pop) Rare "Hollywood Babylon" Concert Poster, 1971 This rare poster advertises a Stooges concert that never happened. The Hollywood Palladium had been the home to television tapings of The Lawrence Welk Show since 1961, and the urban legend has been that Welk had the show canceled when he learned about the on-stage antics of The Stooges and opening act The Cockettes. In reality, both Iggy Pop and James Williamson had quit The Stooges several weeks in advance of the show - but apparently after this gorgeous poster had been printed. For a poster from 1971, it clearly looks ahead of its time, with a fantastic, glam sheen that looks strikingly contemporary today. Printed in black and hot pink on a reflective silver background, with an photo image of Iggy above the rest of the Stooges, and with the Cockettes at the bottom. This poster has been beautifully preserved, with no fading or tears, the corners still sharp, and only minor wear at the edges. The back shows clear signs of pink ink seepage, but is otherwise completely clean. Overall: NM-. A real find!
