ADVERTISING BRIAN JONES' LAST-EVER AMERICAN CONCERT

The Rolling Stones 1966 Honolulu, Hawaii Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising the Rolling Stones playing in Honolulu, Hawaii on Thursday night, July 28, 1966. This show would prove to be the last American concert ever played by Stones founding member Brian Jones. It was the final date on the band's 28-date summer 1966 North American tour; they would not return to the U.S.A. until November 1969. Mick Jagger had just celebrated his 23rd birthday two days prior, and the band's newest hit, "Mother's Little Helper," had just entered the Billboard top 10.

Obviously primitive in design, this board was produced by Honolulu concert promoter/guru Tom Moffatt, with local radio station KPOI presenting. The top half of the poster consists of a B&W panel stapled in place onto the original red & yellow poster. What was underneath? Well, the original printing still said "The Rolling Stones," but in much smaller lettering with "KPOI" getting bigger play. This new alignment got that perspective where it needed to be.

This first-ever Heritage offering measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good Minus condition. From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: There is grime and blemishing, and some uneven toning, on the B&W replacement card. Note the foxing also around some of the staples. Those staples are a little rusty but solidly intact. The general surface grime continues down into the red & yellow. The lower right corner has both 3 ½" and 1 ½" diagonal creases, with the larger one starting to crack the surface and beginning to get a little bit "flappy" (weak). But they don't break the yellow color. The upper two corners also have benign diagonal creases. And the verso has many ‘tape lifts' from when the board was posted.
