THE STONES LAND IN CHICAGO WITH EXACTLY ONE HIT SINGLE

The Rolling Stones 1964 Chicago, IL Second-American-Tour Concert Poster. An original concert-advertising window card for the Rolling Stones playing a show at McCormick Place (specifically, the Arie Crown Theatre) in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday night, November 15, 1964. This was only the group's second American tour, and the final night of the trek. The Stones' first tour in June had hit only eight U.S. cities; this second jaunt, in the fall, itself consisted of only 12 cities, so this was still very much "the small-time" for the band, before they blew up with several big hits in '65.

The poster features a very popular design of red, white & blue (very possibly an intentional color choice) utilizing fun pop-art fonts and two early publicity photos taken back in London. When this poster was designed, the Stones had yet to hit the American Top 20 with anything. (Just "Tell Me" at #24 in Billboard and "It's All Over Now" at #26.) However, this show happened to coincide with the band achieving their first-ever Top 20 hit in America the very week of this gig, "Time Is on My Side."

The 10 songs the Stones had in rotation on this tour were the above three singles plus "Not Fade Away" (of course), "Around and Around," "Off the Hook," "I'm All Right," "If You Need Me," "Carol" and "I'm a Kingbee." Wow, talk about early in their career!

This extremely scarce poster measures 14" x 22" and grades to repaired Very Good condition. From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: A paper conservator addressed a few edge and corner issues, touching up any printing or color where necessary, mending pinholes, eradicating surface blemishes and greatly reducing any creasing it might have had. There are touch-up's to the red color in a couple of spots, but most of the repair was in the white margins. There are still surface nicks, dings and creases in the artwork area, most visible when you hold the poster at an angle to the light. But the piece presents beautifully when viewed normally, as you can see from our picture. In other words, it looks exactly its age... 61 years old now.
