Description

The Rolling Stones 1964 "All Nite Rave" Alexandra Palace, London UK Concert Poster. Vintage original UK concert poster for the Rolling Stones' headlining performance at the major London venue, Alexandra Palace, which took place on June 26, 1964. Measuring 20" x 30", the poster printed on thin paper stock by Hasting Printing Co. and emblazoned in red with the event title "All Night Rave", organized by the Rolling Stones Fan Club, running from 9pm to 6.30am the following morning. Additional acts listed on the billing include Millie and the Five Embers, John Lee Hooker, John Mayall's Blues Breakers (mis-spelled here as 'John Mayalis'), The Barron Knights featuring Duke D'mond, Jimmy Powell and the Five Dimensions, The Downliners Sect, Tony Colton and the Crawdaddies, and more ("Etc. Etc. Etc."). Tickets were on sale directly from the Rolling Stones Fan Club, and included club membership. With Alexandra Palace boasting a capacity in the thousands, this was a milestone for the Stones; a membership boost for their loyal fan club; and among the largest UK theater shows the band had performed to date. An extremely rare and remarkable survival from an early Rolling Stones performance. In Rolling Stones 50, Charlie Watts revealed that he would still play the same cymbals he used at this famous Alexandra Palace Show almost 50 years later! In 2012 he said would still use them with his jazz band, but "not when I'm playing with the Stones. It's too delicate for that." Literature: The Rolling Stones 50, 2012, p. 68 (illustrated). The poster in worn condition consistent with age, wall display and removal, exhibits toning, handling creases, minor tears and nicks to edges, areas of staining, foxing and tape marks including to the lower margin, and areas of white paint visible towards the poster edges. Toning and staining to verso. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
