The Lovin' Spoonful 1966 Houston, TX Concert Poster w/Unusual Easels on Back. An original and very unusual thick paper/card-stock concert poster for the Lovin' Spoonful appearing at the Music Hall in Houston, Texas on Monday evening, November 21, 1966.

What makes this poster highly unusual is the presence of two easels on the back, to facilitate standing up on a retail countertop. We've never seen anything quite like it, and that's probably because we can't imagine it worked very well... from a practical standpoint, easels aren't nearly as effective with paper or cardstock posters as they are with cardboard displays.

Nonetheless, it's a cool blue & silver horizontal poster using a type font very much of the era. Check out that "box seat" price of $25... no mention here of a charity, so maybe that was very early dynamic pricing. You have to wonder how many they sold.

All of this is incidental compared to the red-hot Spoonful at the time, led by John Sebastian. In the last 15 months they had reeled off six straight Top 10 hits: "Do You Believe in Magic," "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice," "Daydream," "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind?", "Summer in the City" and "Rain on the Roof." Up next: another Top 10 winner, "Nashville Cats."

Measures 24" x 18" and grades to Very Good condition. Most of the center blue artwork is undamaged, but the silver is pretty dinged and creased all the way around, especially the corners. But the only place it hits wording is in the "M" of "P.M." Easels on the back appear to never have been used. COA from Heritage Auctions.
