The Kinks 1965 Honolulu, Hawaii British-Invasion Cardboard Concert Poster. An original advertising window card for The Kinks in Honolulu, Hawaii on Tuesday, July 6, 1965. And yes, the concert really did take place.

Finding a Kinks concert poster from the 1960's is a major challenge. After three straight Top 10 singles in 1964-65 - "You Really Got Me," "All Day and All of the Night" and "Tired of Waiting for You" - the group let success go to its head and found themselves in constant trouble. They toured America for the first time in the summer of 1965, which this poster is from. But right after this tour, their band members got in a fight with TV technician, and the American Federation of Musicians refused to grant them permits to perform in America for the next four years.

Measures 14" x 20" and in Near Mint Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: "The reason we got banned was a mixture of bad agency, bad management, bad luck and bad behavior," lead guitarist Dave Davies has said. "So we deserved everything we got. But it got lifted four years later." The group finally returned to America in the fall of 1969, only to find they were now passe. So they adapted and changed, but the 60's had been largely lost to them in America.

So all that makes this poster extra special. Great shot of brothers Ray & Dave Davies, plus bassist Pete Quaife and drummer Mick Avory, lounging around a cannon. A great teenage dance concert with all admitted for just $2.00, and be sure to dress casual.

As rare as can be; the only example of this poster the collecting community has ever seen.

Condition details: On thin cardboard, or some would call thick card stock. Slight creases down in both corner areas, and some grime on the verso from decades of storage.
