Description

The Grateful Dead 1978 Cairo, Egypt Concert Poster Signed by Alton Kelley, Graded 9.8 (AOR-4.239). An original first-printing Grateful Dead concert poster for "Egypt 1978" featuring astounding artwork by the late Alton Kelley, who has signed this specimen right above his credit. An ever-popular poster, this is the first graded example that Heritage has ever offered. And we're starting at the top of the pyramid, because it's been graded a super-choice 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company).

On the left, the poster advertises the Dead at the Rainbow Theater in London on September 19, which was subsequently canceled. But that's fine, because it's obviously Egypt that carries the day here. The Dead played three shows at the Sound and Light Theatre at the Great Pyramid at Giza in Cairo, Egypt on September 14, 15 and 16. It's interesting that Kelley used the headline "European Tour 1978," because there were no other shows across the Atlantic but these.

Easily one of the most popular Grateful Dead concert posters ever designed, a true perennial favorite that looks beyond gorgeous when framed, which of course is still doable even in the CGC holder. Measures 20" x 30" and grades to 9.8 Near Mint/Mint. COA from Heritage Auctions.
