DescriptionThe Doors / Jim Morrison 1968 Vancouver, B.C., Canada Handbill. An original paper concert flyer advertising The Doors, and prominently depicting Jim Morrison, playing at the Pacific Coliseum (aka PNE) in Vancouver, British Columbia on Saturday evening, July 13, 1968. This was just 10 days after the release of the band's third album, Waiting for the Sun.
A striking and unusual handbill with the entire artwork consisting of Morrison on stage, looking skyward. It's no wonder; the band revolved around him like few other lead singers in rock history. According to the book The Doors on the Road by Greg Shaw (Omnibus Press), "Morrison magnetizes the capacity crowd of 13,000 with an engaging series of screams and chants, and leads off several songs with his improvisational poetry. He flies into high gear, assaulting his microphone and steering the band into a fresh, dynamic and wildly energetic show." During the concert's finale, hundreds of fans swarm the stage – on the stage – and surround Morrison with "wild enthusiasm and insane dancing."
Measures 8 1/2" x 11" and grades to Very Good Minus condition. Handbill has a vertical fold from just to the left of "A" at the top down through the "R" in "Artists" at the bottom. Half-inch, un-mended tears in the left margin by the microphone and lower right margin near the corner. Little notch of paper missing in lower left corner. A crease of 1 ½" in upper right corner but all in the white. On the verso, tape lifts in all four corners, which sometimes thinned the paper out down to just a layer or two. Little bits of brown tape residue, and even one small piece of original masking tape. Both sides considerably toned. COA from Heritage Auctions.
