Description
A MOEHRING MASTERPIECE FROM THE PACIFIC NW
The Doors 1967 Seattle, WA Concert Poster by John Moehring.
An original, first-printing psychedelic concert poster for the
Doors, Crome Syrcus and Magic Fern playing at the famous Eagles
Auditorium in Seattle, Washington on Friday night, November 10,
1967. This poster's dazzling pink & green graphics were executed by
Seattle's favorite poster son, John Moehring. He's created a
spellbinding image of a beautiful gypsy with long, flowing hair
holding a crystal ball, with Jim Morrison & Co. depicted inside
it.This is one of Moehring's most coveted works, and it's very difficult to find in any condition. The combination of the Doors in their magical first year, the sublime artwork, the legendary venue, the absolute scarcity of this poster and its strong condition add up to a real bell-ringer and a highlight of this auction.
Auction-watchers tell Heritage that this poster has been offered only once publicly before, several years ago. That covers the last 30 years, so you get an idea of just how rare this poster is.
This first-ever Heritage offering measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: The poster has one neat thumbtack hole in each corner, sometimes with the faint attendant "halo." There is a tiny bit of broken color in the green at the bottom, directly under the word "On"; this is the result of a crease you can see on the verso. Also visible on the backside are two 3 ½" horizontal creases which both show just a little bit on the front, on the poster's right side. There's a little bit more light surface creasing to the poster's thick, parchment-like paper. And the upper right corner has two tiny diagonal corner creases between the thumbtack hole and the corner tip.
