The Champs (w/Seals & Crofts) "Tequila" 1960 Klamath Falls, OR Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising Los Angeles studio band The Champs, and their major hit "Tequila," in concert in Klamath Falls, Oregon on Saturday evening, July 16, 1960.

The reason this poster shows just one person, instead of a group, is that rhythm guitarist Dave Burgess was the band's co-founder and the rest of the group was a revolving door. However, some major talent passed through in the process. Jimmy Seals (saxophone) and Dash Crofts (drums) joined the Champs in late 1958 after "Tequila" had spent a full month at #1 on the nation's pop charts. They would stay with Burgess for five years, so although there's no hard proof, it seems pretty certain they were part of Burgess' touring outfit at this time. (The duo would go on to have Top 10 hits in the 70's with "Summer Breeze," "Diamond Girl" and "Get Closer.")

And just three months after this show, legendary guitarist and performer Glen Campbell would join the Champs for 2-3 years.

Despite many efforts, the Challenge Records combo would never hit Billboard's Top 20 again. (But they did reach the Top 40 three more times.)

A nice three-color Tilghman Press concert poster that segues from red print at the top down to black print in the bottom half, all on a yellow background. Measures a shade over 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. The only real issue is a very light water stain on the board's right edge, which goes into the end of "Records" and "Eye." Corners are soft and rounded, and there's a little surface marking under the "A" in "Auditorium." COA from Heritage Auctions.
