Description

The Beatles 1965 Cow Palace San Francisco Concert Handbill. An original flyer and mail-order form for The Beatles appearing at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, CA, as the final date of their second tour of America... on Tuesday, August 31, 1965. This handbill was pushing tickets for the 2:00 PM matinee, as the evening show had already sold out all 17,000 tickets. Despite this effort by promoter Paul Catalana, the daytime show ended up drawing only 11,700 fans. A weekday matinee is a tall order for anybody to sell out.

As advertising fliers go, this one has always been popular with Beatles collectors for its sheer attractiveness. You have all four Fabs singled out with their names underneath their pictures, and then prolific use of orange color to supplement the usual B&W. Well-known as one of the better Beatles American handbills from any of their three tours.

Measures 8 ½" x 11 ¾" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Since this date concluded their tour, the Beatles flew home 24 hours later and proceeded to take a rare six-week break without lifting a finger until mid-October. But then... all they did was go into Abbey Road Studios in London and record their next album, Rubber Soul.

Condition details: There is tape residue on all four corners of the verso, which bleeds through a little bit to the front. It's very faint, but you can see the outlines, with the darkest one being above George's head. There's also a light stain to the right of George's head, perhaps an ancient water stain. Some minor handling creases in the top white margin. Otherwise a very strong piece in admirable condition.
