A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME... AND COLOR

Stanley Mouse "Blue Dawn" Skeleton & Roses Variant One-Off Original Painting. Last year, Heritage successfully auctioned off an original Stanley Mouse painting, a very large acrylic-on-canvas rendition of his famous 1966 Grateful Dead concert poster "Skeleton & Roses." The piece we're offering here could very well be its sister. Mouse executed it a few years ago, framed it himself, and sold it to the same consignor who gave us the big red-rose painting. Mouse christened this one "Blue Dawn" and provided his uniquely styled Letter of Authenticity with it.

A rose by any other name, as the old saying goes, to which we'll add "a rose by any other color." Although we're accustomed to red roses because of the famous concert poster, this blue beauty works just as well, and some actually prefer it. It's a magnificent piece, so much so that this writer propped it up in his office for a week just so Heritage employees could stop by and oooh & aaah it. (Such is the fun of our jobs here.)

As some know but many do not, Mr. Mouse suffered a stroke a couple of years back and has told acquaintances that he no longer has the wherewithal to execute such ambitious projects as this anymore. So we don't expect a third one to ever show up.

This unique and first-ever Heritage offering measures 36 3/8" x 47" (the entire frame) and 30" x 40" (just the painting), and grades to excellent condition with no apparent damage. LOA from Stanley Mouse. COA from Heritage Auctions.
