Sonny Rollins, Art Farmer, Horace Silver 1954 Open Door, NY Small Concert Poster. An original small cardboard window card from Bob Reisner's Open Door nightclub in New York City advertising "The Greatest in Modern Jazz" in a show on Sunday night, July 25, 1954. The quintet advertised consisted of Art Farmer, Sonny Rollins and Horace Silver in larger print, and the rhythm section of Curly Russell and Arthur Taylor in slightly smaller print.

There's no question this is an unusual configuration, laid out exactly like a poster and made of card stock. This can't be called a handbill, it's definitely just a very small poster to be placed in windows, stapled to telephone poles, etc.

Bob Reisner presented the show and owned the nightclub. This item, and a few others we've been auctioning off, actually came from Mr. Reisner's estate years after he passed away in the early 70's. And it was via the old-fashioned way... his heirs simply cleaned out his files and took them to an established flea market in New York City, where the first few lucky patrons to stumble across them took home some real treasures, including original vinyl pressings and a few posters like this.

Measures 7" x 11 ¼" and grades to Near Mint Minus condition with pin holes in each corner, along with one in the upper center, "1954" written in black ink next "July 25th," and light toning in the upper right corner. Also a bumped lower right corner. COA from Heritage Auctions.
