Sex Pistols December 1977 Never Mind The Bans Tour Poster, Glitterbest LTD, 1977. By December 1977, the Sex Pistols had been gathering bad press in the UK for a solid 12 months - beginning with the infamous Grundy television appearance in December 1976, the Buckingham Palace contract signing in March, the Silver Jubilee concert on the Thames in June, and the October release and subsequent furor over the title and content of their LP Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols. Throughout the year a number of gigs were canceled, and even in cities where they weren't scheduled to perform local governments stepped up to ban them from ever doing so! And so it was somewhat of a triumphant moment when a nine date UK tour was cobbled together for year's end, to begin on the 16th and ending on Christmas Day. This lot and one immediately following are tour posters which were hastily assembled by the management company of the band, Glitterbest LTD, to promote the tour dates.

This poster, "Never Mind The Bans, Sex Pistols Will Play," is a general tour poster designed to be used locally to promote a particular venue and date. It likely would have been sent to the local venue and promoter, who would have filled in the performance information in the blank space at lower right. Done in the ransom note cutout style, there's a nice image of Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicious at the top, and reproductions of actual "ban" letters received from three cities and the Rank Organisation at left.

Printed on white paper and measuring approximately 11.75" x 16.5", the poster has six horizontal folds, possibly from mailing. There are several small tears at the edges, primarily top left, and a larger tear repaired with clear tape at center right, with a small area of loss at top center, in an area also characterized by some water stains in the borders.
