SEMINAL 1950's ROCK 'N ROLL ADVERTISING

Rhythm 'n Blues of 1956 Fats Domino, Little Richard, Ruth Brown Concert Poster. A terrific line-up of R&B stars highlight this early 1956 tour revue window card, featuring a great, snappy five-color design utilizing red, blue, yellow, black & white. Twenty musicians' faces beam out from the poster, and a sense of action is nicely conveyed against a background of broad blue & yellow stripes, with Ruth Brown nicely leading the charge in the middle. Surrounding Ruth's large photo were Fats Domino, The Clovers, Little Richard, Little Willie John, The Cadillacs, The Turbans, The Sweethearts, Al Jackson and his Fatmen Quartet, Joe Medlin and Choker Campbell and his Big Band.

These musicians tore up the R&B charts, there's no question about it. Just through 1956, the year of this poster, the talent on here had thus far racked up 78 charting R&B singles. Now that's chart action. And notice there are six song titles mentioned, one for each major artist... five of them were national Top 5 R&B smashes. (Only the Turbans fell short with theirs.)

Quite a rare piece, only the second time Heritage has ever offered one for sale. The previous one was 11 years ago, and once a decade is about the right pace for a poster this scarce.

Measures 22" x 28" and in Very Good condition due to restoration, mostly to the surrounding white border and blank box at the top, which were missing when the piece was found but lovingly and meticulously restored by a world-class poster resto artist to bring the board to full size again. There are also a few minor imperfections in the color area, such as vertical lines down from Little Richard's picture and to the right of Little Willie John's face.
