Otis Redding, Booker T. & The MG's 1967 "Hit the Road, Stax!" U.K. Concert Poster. An original large paper concert poster for the touring Stax/Volt Records revue of the U.K. in early 1967, starring Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Booker T. & the MG's, Eddie Floyd, the Mar-Keys and Arthur Conley. This tour-blank poster was for the specific date of Saturday, March 18, 1967, at The Upper Cut club in London, with both a matinee and evening show scheduled. It's cleverly headlined, "Hit the Road Stax!" This pink, white, orange and black poster was printed on thick paper, measures 18 1/2" x 27 7/8" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Billy Walker's club had opened three months earlier by presenting The Who, and followed with shows by the Jimi Hendrix Experience and the Spencer Davis Group, among many others. So it was a short-lived, happening place, and this Stax/Volt caravan fit right in.

British audiences generally went gaga over American R&B, and this presentation of six American hit-makers more than filled the bill. When you cross the Atlantic, you can't afford the travel expenses to bring along wannabes; all six acts were bona fide Top 10 performers. And we love that line embellishing Booker T: "Featuring the fantastic guitar of Steve Cropper."

Condition details: Poster has a 6 ½" crease in the upper right corner, but it's faded back into the poster and is barely visible. The poster has a few benign light creases in the artwork area, again barely visible. There's a light dirt blemish in the white above "Upper Cut." Otherwise just some general surface creasing from years of storage and light handling.

There's a slightly uneven cut on the left edge, to the left of "Featuring," but we believe that to be a printer's anomaly, not trimming. The same kind of excess edge paper appears on the bottom edge as well, on the right side.
