"THE KING OF SHAKE" MOVING & GROOVING FOR YOU

Otis Redding 1966 "Move and Groove" Oakland, CA Boxing-Style Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising the master, Otis Redding with His 10-Piece Orchestra, performing at the Continental Club in Oakland, California on Thursday night, April 14, 1966 from 9:30 PM until whenever the people wanted to stop moving & grooving.

This is a classic Tilghman ("till-man") boxer, printed right there in the same city, with all of their trademark elements including the lettering ink morphing from red at the top into black in the middle and finally to green in the bottom third. Fits in perfectly with the handsome B&W publicity photo of Otis right in the middle.

And it has about the two best songs you could ask for on an Otis Redding poster, both from the previous year: "Mr. Pitiful," his first Top 10 hit of any kind (#10 R&B in Billboard), and then his monster evergreen "Respect," which he wrote... the song he killed with at Monterey Pop and which Aretha Franklin took into the Library of Congress. Measures a pleasantly oversized 15 1/4" x 23 1/8" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Poster is completely unrestored and untouched. There is a thumbtack hole with attendant halo in each of the upper corners; the lower left corner has two pinholes; and the lower right corner has one. All of these are in the white margin, touching no artwork. The upper left corner tip is frayed and possibly missing a tiny piece of top white paper (but not board). The lower right corner has a two-inch diagonal crease which briefly intersects the green bar. There's a mild, light-brown water stain down in the bottom white margin from the left edge going across, ending under "Mr." There are brown stains on the poster's right edge by the star, and bigger down in the yellow below the "G" of "Redding." There are a couple of other minor surface creases and scratches, nothing bad. And the verso has some small diagrams drawn in blue pen.
