Description
Nirvana 1991 Nevermind "Quad" UK Multi-Date Concert Poster. An original, first-printing, large-format paper concert poster for Seattle band Nirvana playing three dates in England, touring off their brand new masterwork LP, Nevermind. Printed on bright orange paper, this commanding poster is the largest Nirvana poster Heritage has ever auctioned, and is known as a "quad" in England... referring to its extra-large 30" x 40" size. The poster was touting three dates in England, just before the band would jet off to Germany. Playing Bierkeller in Bristol, the Astoria in London (which was sold out), and Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton, Nirvana's popularity was exploding everywhere it went. And this poster features Nevermind's famous album-cover artwork and a plug for the LP down below, complete with its wavy logo-name. For fans of that landmark grunge album, this poster couldn't check more boxes. Plus, it's the only specimen we've ever seen here at Heritage, so certainly the first we've ever listed.
You can practically feel the excitement of the times in this poster. Nirvana was like a tornado coming to every town in the world with Nevermind in 1991 and 1992. And people were out in droves to see this little trio with a gigantic sound. Poster measures 40" x 30", is rolled and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: Only a few years prior, Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic (then known as "Chris") were playing around the logging town of Aberdeen, hours away from Seattle. Blending a love of the Beatles with Led Zeppelin and Black Flag, they were not primed to change pop culture, but they did.
For a lot of kids who liked hair metal in the 1980s, they couldn't relate to it on a ground level. When it came to Nirvana and their contemporaries, it was a different kind of rock and expression. Marketed as grunge to teenagers born in the late 1970s and early 1980s, it was the name that stuck. Unlike bands like Whitesnake, Bon Jovi, and Def Leppard, you didn't need to have your head filled with hairspray and know how to transpose Debussy on the guitar. You just needed the drive to play music, an electric guitar, a distortion pedal, and a collection of large drums and cymbals.
Opener Captain America consisted of Eugene Kelly from the Vaselines (a band Nirvana covered). The band was later known as Eugenius.
Condition details: Has various spots of creasing and fold marks in the corners.
