Description
Mötley Crüe 1982 Roxy Theater, Los Angeles Oversized Concert Poster. A large cardboard window card made for rock's baddest of bad boys in concert at Los Angeles' famed Sunset Strip nightclub, the Roxy. This was at the beginning of their heyday, as their indie debut album, Too Fast for Love, had been reissued by the major Elektra and they plotted worldwide domination. "Hells Revenge," the big headline in red screams. "From the Boys You Love to Hate."This is quintessential 1982 L.A. metal. Long before it was dismissed as hair metal or poodle rock, this was when combining glam, punk and metal felt like a danger to society. Poster measures 14" x 28" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: This commanding poster is a great example of how Mötley Crüe stood out at the time. Both shows featured the band playing a wealth of material from Too Fast For Love, and closing both shows with their rendition of the Beatles' "Helter Skelter." Embracing the gimmicks of satanism, skulls, candles and a pentagram, the band wanted to provoke a strong reaction with the ultra-fundamentalism that was rampant in the decade of decadence. Even though the band didn't believe or practice what they portrayed in their image (they were all about sex, drugs and rock n' roll -- in that exact order), they wanted to stand out. And they did.
This is a fine piece of documentation of the days when Mötley Crüe was one of the most popular and notorious bands on the Sunset Strip. After forming in early 1981, Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee soon drafted Mick Mars and Vince Neil to create a sound that was nasty but catchy, and a look that meant to shock and have sex appeal. By these shows at the Roxy in late 1982, Too Fast For Love had been remixed and reissued by Elektra Records. The debauchery around the band (especially in these days) has been well documented in The Dirt oral history and the Netflix movie of the same name. But a poster like this says so much in a glance instead of reading a whole book or watching a feature length movie.
Condition details: Made by the Colby Poster Printing Co., this poster has a large creasing mark in the bottom portion, along with creasing in upper portions, along with bumped corners and red ink bleed through on the verso.
