Description

Monterey Pop Festival Poster (1967). First-printing poster for one of the epochal moments in Rock and Roll. This was the event that introduced Jimi Hendrix to the United States; he put on a (quite literally) "blistering" performance with his band, The Jimi Hendrix Experience (Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding). The Who also made their major American debut, wowing the 50,000+ crowd by smashing their instruments at the end of their set. This June 16-18 event is generally considered the beginning of the Summer of Love; it was the first widely promoted and heavily attended Rock concert, and set the stage for Woodstock two years later. This is the classic metallic silver poster designed by Tom Wilkes, measuring approximately 12.25" x 21.5". In Very Good Plus condition with barely-noticeable writing within the "J" at the top left, and tack holes.
