Description

Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson 1960 Berlin, Germany Concert Poster Designed by Gunther Kieser. An original large paper concert poster for the Miles Davis Sextet, the Oscar Peterson Trio and the Stan Getz Quartet playing at the Sportpalast in Berlin, Germany on Sunday evening, March 27, 1960. The show was presented under the banner of Norman Granz' very respected and world-famous Jazz at the Philharmonic ("JATP"). The timing of this poster is very key because Davis' latest album for Columbia Records had been his masterpiece, Kind of Blue, released the previous summer. We'd go as far as to say that famous German poster designer Gunther Kieser even colored this poster teal, or turquoise... hard to say exactly... so we guess you'd call this poster, too, "kind of blue." As a footnote, Mr. Kieser lived into his early 90's, but passed away last March. Measures 33" x 23 1/2" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Poster has two vertical folds which have long since been flattened out, but do break a tad of color around the words "Sextet" and "Quartet." There are two pinholes in each of the four corners. A small nick of edge paper is missing above the "T" in "Presents." Light overall toning.
