Miles Davis 1971 Psychedelic German Tour-Blank Concert Poster by Gunther Kieser. A very unusual and compelling Miles Davis concert poster from Germany that features his skin completely psychedelicized, courtesy of legendary German concert-poster artist Gunther Kieser.

"Miles Davis Group in Concert," it proclaims, also in hip lettering. If you think that's not much information, that's because this was a "tour blank" in which the day-to-day concert information would be printed in for each stop on Miles' fall 1971 tour of Deutschland. Perfect for framing, this beauty is an original blank with none of the concert deets cluttering up the image. It's a product of its time but still looks remarkably fresh and stunning today, a real conversation piece. Basically, people have never seen anything like it.

This poster has been seen with the details printed in from Frankfurt on October 18. The date, city, venue and concert time would be printed in the white space to the right of Miles' neck. The small-print ticket-buying locations would be inserted directly across from that, to the left of his chin. And a CBS Records logo would be added to the upper right corner.

Miles was always the king of cool, of course, and he very much kept up with trends and tried to stay relevant. He may have been a jazz man, but he loved Jimi Hendrix and Jimi's 1970 group Band of Gypsys, and listened to records by The Byrds, Aretha Franklin, James Brown and Sly & the Family Stone, among many others. He was in his electric period at this point, and had released the cutting-edge Bitches Brew the year before. To help promote that album to a wider audience, Miles started opening some shows for rock acts, such as the Steve Miller Band and Neil Young & Crazy Horse at two Fillmore East concerts in March 1970. The look and feel of this crazy-cool poster, with its timeless artwork, plays right into that ethos.

Measures 23 1/2" x 33 1/2" and grades to Near Mint condition with only a slightly, lightly crumpled edge in the upper right white area, and a tiny half-inch crease at the lower right corner tip. Upper left corner has barely there, uber-light crease to it as well. COA from Heritage Auctions.
