    Description

Louis Prima, Harry James, Hot Lips Page, Guy Lombardo 1940's Big-Band Concert Posters (4). A lot of four World War II-vintage marquee style concert posters from the Old Orchard Pier in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. These four consist of:

    • Louis Prima, Teddy Powell and Johnny Long, 1941. Prima is the big name here, but the previous month, Long had proudly played at President Franklin D. Roosevelt's birthday ball. This yellow & black window card measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition with lots of dirt & grime at the bottom, the usual dinged and sometimes creased corners, and general overall toning. No pinholes or tears anywhere.

    • Harry James, Lou Breese, Bernie Larkin and Tommy Reynolds, 1941. This was just a couple of years after Frank Sinatra had gotten his start singing in James' band. The "Aug. 1" date above Breese's name is a sticker. This yellow & green window card measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition with extra dirt & grime in the top right, the usual dinged corners, light dirt throughout and general overall toning. No pinholes or tears anywhere, but an edge crease that goes into "Reynolds."

    • Guy Lombardo, Ina Ray Hutton, Leighton Gray and Harder Downing, 1941. As of this very week, Lombardo's previous two waxings (this spring) had both gone to #1 in the country: "The Band Played On" (from the movie Strawberry Blonde) and "Intermezzo (Souvenir De Vienne)." This red & white window card measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good Minus condition, for a light but unsightly water stain running the vertical length of the board's right side. Upper left corner took a whack to the edge. The bottom half of Guy Lombardo's name has faded a bit until the line below him is almost orange. General overall toning, and a couple of stars drawn in pencil on the back, large but very light and barely noticeable.

    • Hot Lips Page, Mal Hallett, Tony Brown and Wes Plaisted, 1942. The previous three posters are standard window cards; this is a much larger all-paper poster. Measures 28" x 41" and grades to Very Good condition. Has breakthrough tears on the "BR" of "Brown," heavy creases throughout of course, and some light water staining in the middle-right margin and lower right corner area. It also appears this poster once got slightly wet and then dried out, creating a lot of 'waviness' in the paper, but hardly a factor. This poster is actually preserved quite well, with its ink still a very deep chocolate brown and its bones quite solid. COA from Heritage Auctions.

The movie quite literally changed my life. I have included a pic of me in Sly's Rocky 3 Cashmere overcoat, would much appreciate if it is possible for you to forward this email to Sly to let him know the overcoat is in good hands, and will be well taken care of, (as will be the Rambo knife forging tools, the other lot I won!) Wish you very happy holidays and a great 2016!
